Key Auburn University Laboratory Research Findings

A few years ago, Auburn University was engaged to conduct research on the efficacy of the NORGANIX product. Because this product is of keen interest within the food industry—especially the poultry industry—due to their perpetual challenge combating Salmonella contamination, the Auburn University Department of Poultry Sciences was asked to undertake the laboratory research. Over the course of 18 months three separate phases of research were conducted. First came research on Gram-Negative bacteria using Salmonella as the test microbe. Second came research on Gram-Positive bacteria using Listeria as the test microbe. In the third phase of research the Auburn scientists tested the NORGANIX product on two spore-formers—Bacillus and Clostridium—both of which are widely recognized as being exceedingly difficult to kill.

The results of the Auburn research were compelling. Their findings include the following:

  1. Significant levels of microbes (including Salmonella, Listeria and spore-formers like Bacillus and Clostridium) do in fact find their way deep into the concrete through the open capillary system that is inherent to all concrete. Surprisingly, this was the first time this long-time hypothesis had ever been actually tested and confirmed.
  2. The graphs (above) were produced by Auburn University scientists, and are consequently based on a logarithmic scale, which may require some explanation:
    • in the Gram-Negative chart, for example, the 3-point reduction for Salmonella represents the fact that NORGANIX eliminates more than 99.9% of the bacteria present on and in the concrete—a truly phenomenal result.
    • Similarly, in the Gram-Positive chart, the 1.4-point reduction indicates that NORGANIX eliminates more than 95% of the Listeria bacteria on concrete and within the concrete—an outstanding outcome by any measure, given the resilience of this microbe.
    • The lab test results on spore- formers also indicate a near 100% reduction—impressive results given the resistance of these microbes to disinfectants.
  3. Auburn University tests also prove conclusively that while Listeria or Salmonella may be reintroduced to the surface of the concrete (where it can be subsequently treated), the microbes cannot reenter and entrench themselves in the closed capillaries within the NORGANIX-sealed concrete. Moreover, even if microbes within the concrete were somehow to survive, they could not exit the interior of the concrete to re-contaminate the surface as they would be forever encapsulated within the capillaries that have been permanently closed to traffic.

Conclusion

These findings prove conclusively that NORGANIX is effective as a biosecurity treatment for contaminated concrete. We believe it is the only product available anywhere that can do all this.
